Amsterdam Neighborhood
Noord
Amsterdam's creative frontier. Street art, craft beer, nightlife, and zero tourist crowds.
Noord used to be the part of Amsterdam nobody talked about. Now it is the part everyone talks about. A free five-minute ferry from Centraal takes you to street art, NDSM wharf, industrial-cool restaurants, and some of the best nightlife in the city. My neighbor moved there last year and genuinely will not shut up about it. If Brooklyn had canals and a windmill brewery, it would be Amsterdam Noord. The vibe is creative, a little rough around the edges, and completely different from the rest of the city.
Things to Do
7 spotsNDSM Wharf
Former shipyard turned creative village. My friend who works in design basically lives here. Street art, food trucks, and the IJ Hallen flea market once a month.
A'DAM Lookout
The observation deck on top of A'DAM Tower, plus a swing that hangs you over the edge. My friend Jake from Texas screamed the entire time on the swing and then immediately wanted to go again. The panoramic view is worth it even without the swing.
Street Art Museum Amsterdam (SAMA)
My neighbor dragged me here expecting graffiti and left speechless. A massive warehouse in Noord filled with world-class street art. Take the free ferry and combine with NDSM exploring.
A'DAM Toren Lookout
Best view of Amsterdam, plus Europe's highest swing on the roof. My coworker proposed up here at sunset. Take the free ferry from Centraal and thank me later.
IJ-Hallen & Vintage Markets
Europe's biggest flea market, once a month at NDSM. My roommate has furnished half her apartment from here. Bring cash, come early, and prepare to find stuff you never knew you needed.
THIS IS HOLLAND
Okay yes it is a bit cheesy. A 5D flight over the Netherlands with wind and water effects. But my friend brought her parents and they absolutely loved it. Good rainy day backup.
Monk Bouldering
My rainy day backup plan. No ropes, no experience needed, just climb walls for an hour and feel like a champion. Amsterdam's bouldering scene is huge and Monk is the best spot.
Going Out
3 spotsShelter
Underground club in the basement of A'DAM Tower. My neighbor goes here at 2 AM and comes back at noon. The techno is relentless and the crowd is real.
Oedipus Brewery
My friend Daan works in Noord and this is his after-work spot. Craft beers brewed on-site, a big outdoor terrace, and food trucks on weekends. Take the ferry over and make an afternoon of it.
Pllek
A beach bar made of shipping containers on the IJ waterfront. My friend Lotte brings a blanket and stays until sunset. The views of the Amsterdam skyline from here are the best free show in the city.
